Why do people continue to journey
through life and persist with that blasphemous phrase, “God Bless You” ?Let’s
talk about this for a moment or three so I can inform all y’all who don’t
already know where and how exactly this saying, which is retorted after a
fellow peer sneezes, emerged into our everyday lives. Well basically, here’s
how it went down. So apparently, way back in day the common belief was that
when a person sneezes, their heart stops for a moment. At the time, assuming
you acknowledged this pseudoscience as factual, you would say a prayer in
regards to the survival of whoever just sneezed/whoever’s heart just stopped!!!
This ultimately led to the coined phrase, “God Bless You”. Obviously, as time
went on, this idea of your heart stopping when you sneeze was eradicated from
contemporary science and societal belief sets. When you think about it, for
anyone today to recite that nonsense is pretty damn ignorant. It’s pretty damn
clear that your heart doesn’t stop when you sneeze and that your life is in no
way in danger during this period. For someone to continue to say “God Bless
You” is like they are wearing a big sign that says “HEY! I’M NOT ALWAYS POLITE,
BUT WHEN I AM, I SURE AM AN IDIOT” One might argue that it’s simply part of
tradition that we continue to use this phrase. I would reply to that argument
by saying that the tradition that they are referring to is one with outdated
and exiled beliefs that serve no purpose in our society, besides making the
masses sound ignorant and delusional. Just as the shape of the earth was
updated from flat to spherical, almost every theory that was developed in our
past has now been corrected. When will “God Bless You” be eliminated from our
vocabularies, probably never… L
